Hairwash

This 1987 painting by V. Feoktistov, titled "Hairwash," is a 25"x32" tempera work on heavy paper. It offers an intimate, raw, and characteristically surreal look at domestic life in provincial Soviet Russia, capturing a tender yet weary family dynamic.

This painting is perhaps the most emotionally charged of all. It moves beyond social observation into the realm of allegory, where family, despair, addiction, innocence, and hope coexist in a symbolic rural landscape. The work is less satirical than the other paintings and more intimate than all.
